Newsletter week of 2.12.2018

Welcome back after another snow day! Typical "Monday", even though it is Tuesday, and I couldn't get the printer to work to send home this week's newsletter. Here is the link for the newsletter - it is posted on the school's website under the "newsletter/chargers chat" tab.

I will be sending home a hard copy tomorrow with them!

January fun!

It has been a busy month since we came back from Christmas break! It has been fun getting back into the swing of things, and seeing the growth made in just a few weeks!

We have dove right into doing Daily 5 Reading stations at least twice a week. This gives students an opportunity to work with me in a small group setting on reading skills, as well as work in small groups at their level.  Some stations include Khan Academy, Vocabulary Activities, Silent Reading towards AR points, and a hands-on activity or game. The students really enjoy this time as it allows them to work for a short amount of time and then get up and move.  It also gives them a chance to be out of their own seat, collaborate, and talk with each other to problem solve, as they know not to interrupt me while I am working with a group. Here are a few pictures from this past week's Daily 5 time.

A few pictures from some fun recess time! It is fun to see them still having fun doing some of the "simple" things!

A few Mondays ago we had the awesome experience to go see 'Wonder' at the theater. We had the theater to ourselves!

The kids were so well behaved and seemed to enjoy the movie! It was a great reminder that no matter what we look like on the outside doesn't change that we have feelings that will be hurt, and the need for friends.

Choose Kindness!!!!

Beyond Blessed!

Today was such an amazing day celebrating all that we are thankful for! We are so blessed to have such amazing people in our lives that will come spend the morning with us.  God created us with so many unique talents and gifts, and for that we need to be thankful.  During chapel this morning, we were able to recognize and show off just a small part of the talent and gifts here at Bethlehem.  Our band performed, "Happy", to kick off our chapel jubilee! Choir 2 sang a reminder song about how blessed we truly are, and how we can be a blessing to others! Congrats to Kelly Laux (Class Cheerleader), Amani Niedzielski (Creative Thinker), and Nick Bismack (Kokomos Academic Award)! We have so many amazing things going on in our classroom that these 3 are just a glimpse!

After chapel, we were able to enjoy a snack of donuts and juice with our special person, and also created a Blessing Tree that shows all the things we are blessed by in our lives.  The biggest blessing God gave us is JESUS!

I truly wish all of you the happiest of Thanksgiving. May God continue to bless you and continue to provide for your family all that He knows you need! I am blessed by each and every 6th grader in our class, and by all of the Bethlehem family!

Here are some pictures of our special friends and working on our Blessing Trees.

Happy Holy week! I am so blessed for each and every one of you. I thank you for sharing your child with me and letting me get to know them throughout the week! Dr. Frederick and I have been working really hard on getting to the bottom of some of the behaviors in our classroom. IT'S WORKING! There have been many prayers said in class and out of class, as well as time with a group of 6th graders digging deeper into their lives.  God is GREAT!

There will be no chapel this Wednesday because we will go on Thursday for Maundy Thursday service at 1pm. You are more than welcome to join us for that service. We talked today about wearing nicer clothes that day as a way to show respect to Jesus and the sacrifice He made for us.

This week we are going to be focusing on the events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion during Religion time. Some of these lessons will carry over into next week. Memory will be on Thursday. This week's verse is Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."

I wish you all blessed Holy Week! Just remember, Friday will be here, but SUNDAY IS COMING! He is RISEN!

God's Blessings to all of you!

Here we go.......

Well, here we are - heading into April! WOW!  I can't believe just how quickly the year is flying by!

April is going to be a busy month, for sure! Don't forget that this Thursday and Friday are both 1/2 days, with dismissal at 11:30 am. Thursday is conference day, so if you haven't signed up yet, please do or contact me so we can set up a time!

There is no school Friday, April 14th and Monday, April 17th for Easter weekend! Hopefully the weather will be better by then so you are able to spend time outdoors with family and friends.

Students are working hard on their Science Fair projects.  The science fair is April 28th from 5:30-6:30.  Students need to be here by 5:20 to set their projects up and be ready to explain and answer questions. They should be dressed in church attire.  That night is also the night of the K-4th grade Spring play, Malice in the Palace. Please join us at 6:30 to watch that! It is going to be a night celebrating ALL of our students here at Bethlehem.

March was a month that brought back some memories of being in school myself.  I taught them how to cover books using a brown paper bag! They all said they wanted to do more! I loved watching the 5th and 6th graders interacting together at recess and play some "old school" games of 4-square and jump rope. All too often, it is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the day to day life.  They gave me a quick reminder that I need to slow down and take time for the "little things", that end up being the BIG things!

Happy Spring - let's pray for NO SNOW at the end of this week! (But, be prepared and make sure your kiddos have warm coats, hats, and gloves again, please!)

God's Blessings!

STEM Spider Webs

WOW! What a year we've had so far! I'm looking forward to keeping all of you up to date on what's going on in the life of 6th grade!

Last week we finished up a STEM activity in Science.  The goal was to use 2 plastic Meijer bags to create the strongest spider web possible.

They only directions they were given were they had to cut it somehow and both bags needed to be used.  Other than that, they were on their own with their imaginations! Some groups jumped right in and came up with a design immediately; other groups took a tad longer to plan.  It was interesting to watch them work together as a team, test their design, and revamp their work to make it even stronger.

The team's web that held the most Reading books held 8 books! They are already asking when they get to do another one! ***SHHHH.....don't tell them - another one is coming in a few weeks for Valentine's Day! ;-)

Enjoy the pictures!!
